Rosa Starke Walker English Lewis of Warsaw, VA passed away on May 9, 2017. Mrs. Lewis was instrumental in promoting the Westmoreland News during it’s inception in 1947, and later as a local manager and advertising manager. She taught at the original Cople School in Hague, Va.; retiring as the school secretary in 1977.
She was the daughter of Judge George and Mrs. Lucy A. Walker of Poplar Plain and widow of Lloyd W. English Jr. and Talmadge E. Lewis. She was preceeded in death by her sister Eleanor W. Douglas and brothers William W. Walker, Ensign Cyrus Harding Walker, and George Walker Jr. She is survived by her children Lloyd W. English III, Lucy E. Gentilhomme, Margaret E. McLewin, and R. Ellen English, step-daughter Laura L. Douglas, nieces Beverly W. Donovan and Betty W. Harmon, nephew Otis W. Douglas III, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. A lifelong member and supporter of Ebenezer Methodist Church at Oldhams, Va.; selflessness and sharing were her joys; her gifts of carefully prepared pound cakes and rolls were treasured by all who received them.
A Church service will be held at 3pm on May 21st, 2017, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church at Oldhams, VA; a brief graveside service to follow. The family will receive friends at the Church social hall immediately following the graveside service.
