Obituary for Louis Elwood Crabbe

Louis Elwood Crabbe, of Callao, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter on Saturday, January 7, 2023, just days shy of his 98th birthday. He was born on January 9, 1925, on Mundy Point Road, Callao to Louis Walter Crabbe and Leeunia Dodson Crabbe. He was the widower of Corinne Justine Molbert Crabbe. Louis was a retired Supervisor at the Johnson Controls HVAC Company in Richmond, a proud U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and a parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Hague.

As part of the “Greatest Generation”, Louis enlisted in the U.S. Army towards the latter part of World War II and served his country with distinction as a Staff Sergeant in the 18th Tank Destroyer Group during the war.
While stationed in Lake Charles, Louisiana, he met and married his wife Corrine on March 25, 1945. They were happily married for 64 years.

He especially enjoyed his garden, always sharing the fruits of his labor with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed fishing, soft and hard crabbing, and hosting Saturday morning breakfasts with friends.

He served his church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus always volunteering his time and talents.
Family was especially important to Louis, and he doted on his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Paula C. Bailey and her husband Charles; his grandchildren: Justin Bailey; Diana Tate (Daniel), and Roger Bailey; great-grandchildren: Molly, Lucas, Connor and Joseph. Numerous beloved nieces and nephews; all of the wonderful friends and neighbors up and down Mundy Point Road who provided friendship, meals, rides and care. Louis was met at Heaven’s Gates by his parents; his sister and brother-in-law Lucille C. Wade and Frank Wade; and his beloved bride Corinne.

A Funeral Mass for Louis will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Hague with Father Andrew Heintz officiating. Pallbearers will be: Justin Bailey, Roger Bailey, Daniel Tate, John Wallace, Craig Tate and Edward Pond. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the narthex of the church. Burial will follow the service at Henderson United Methodist Church Cemetery in Callao. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Paul's Catholic Church, 7808 Cople Highway, Hague, VA 22469, or Callao Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 82, Callao, VA.
