Obituary for Ronald Edward Smith

Ronald Edward Smith, 75, of Montross, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, November 21, 2022. Ronnie was the son of the late Edward Irving Smith and the late Aldene Fisher Smith. He was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War, and retired from the United States Navy after a long career as a Property Disposal Officer. Ronnie was a member of Totuskey Baptist Church, the Warsaw Bauman Masonic Lodge 332, the VFW, and the American Legion in Colonial Beach.

To know Ronnie was to love him. He had an infectious sense of humor, was kind, generous, and loving. He appreciated traveling, and loved animals, especially his dogs. Ronnie also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was a patriotic man who served his country with pride.

Left to enjoy his memory are his sons: Ronald E. Smith, Jr. (Sarah), Brooks I. Smith (Natalie), and Austin Blake Smith (Whitley Sines); his loving partner Debbie Graham; his twin brother Donnie Smith (Gloria); his beloved granddaughter: Nora Grace Smith; his nephews Brad Smith and Don Smith and his great-nephew Spencer. He also leaves behind his friend and former wife, Sandra Smith; many other dear friends and neighbors; and his cherished dogs, Elsie, Maggie, and Belle. Ronnie will be dearly missed by all of us.

Ronnie will be inurned at the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida, in a private family service. To celebrate Ronnie’s kind spirit and love of animals, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Ronnie’s memory to the Westmoreland County Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1000, Montross, VA 22520.
