Obituary for William Edward Elliott Sr.

William Edward Elliott Sr., 97, of Warsaw, VA passed away on 11 November 2022. He was born 29 November 1924 in Manassas VA. During WW II Mr. Elliott served in the Navy as a Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class aboard the USS Brookings in the Pacific Theater. After the war he returned home to the Northern Neck and married the love of his life, Esther Elizabeth Packett. Initially working at Herbert Delano’s dairy farm, he was responsible for milking, bottling, and delivering milk. In the early 1950’s he joined his father and brothers in their farming operation. In the winter months he also worked as a commercial gill net fisherman and in the Elliott Custom Butchering operation. Over the years Mr. Elliott was active in his community through various organizations and roles including: President of the Young Farmers Club, President of Richmond County Farm Bureau, served on the Richmond County Planning Commission and Wetlands Board, served 15 years on the ASCS County Committee, served on the Board of Directors for Southern States Warsaw Cooperative, served one year on the draft board during the Vietnam War, and was a long-time member and deacon of Cobham Park Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son William E. Elliott Jr. (Donna) of Fredericksburg, his brother John L. Elliott (Mary) of Tappahannock, and his sister Margaret Ann Hall (Bennie) of Beaverdam, VA. He was predeceased by his parents Donald and Lucy Elliott, his beloved wife Esther Elliott, his grandson Jacob B. Elliott, and three brothers Amos Elliott, Warren Elliott and Donald Elliott Jr.

The family will receive friends from 1 pm to 2 pm on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Cobham Park Baptist Church with the funeral service following at 2 pm. Interment will be at Warsaw Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Warsaw Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Cobham Park Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
