Sophia R. Oord, 86, of Mount Holly passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on October 31, 2022. Sophia was born on September 24, 1936, in The Netherlands to Hermina and George Robberecht. Their family immigrated to Ontario, Canada when she was 13, where she later met the love of her life, John. They moved to Virginia in 1965 and began their career working together on the water. Sophia captained their 40-foot deadrise boat, fondly named “Sophia”, with her husband while raising her family.

Sophia was cherished by many, but especially by her husband of 66 years, and by her children, Eric Oord (Debra), Carolyn Bullis (Gary), and Ricky Oord (Milly). Sophia will also be remembered by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly knew her as “Oma”.

Sophia was an unforgettable woman who knew her way around a kitchen, worked hard, and made everyone feel like family. She had a one of kind sense of humor and the memories that are left imprinted on those who were fortunate enough to know her well are endless.

Her family and close friends will be celebrating her life with a private service.
