Obituary for Margaret Frances "Peggy" Newman (Paxton)

Margaret Frances “Peggy” Paxton Newman, 71, of Callao passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. Peggy was born in Washington, D.C. to Albert Lee Paxton and Katherine Jeanne Rexroat Paxton. She was the beloved wife of Donald Jewell Newman, Sr. They had just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Peggy was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church.

Peggy was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her favorite place to be was at home surrounded by her family. Peggy was a creative person. She was a gifted pianist and loved to sing. She sang in the Melrose choir for many years. Peggy enjoyed crochet and birdwatching. Although her home was her favorite place on Earth, she did enjoy many trips on the road with Donald during his long trucking career. Peggy was loving and kind. She will be greatly missed.

Peggy is survived by her devoted husband Donald, her sons: Donnie Newman, Jr. (Katherine) of Tappahannock, Paul Newman (Linda) of Callao, and Brian Newman (Missi) of Callao; her six grandchildren: Kaitlyn Fones (Josh) of Warsaw, Noah Newman of Centerville, Zachary Newman (Arleigh) of Callao, Bryce Newman of Callao, Zachary Newman (Makayla) of Tappahannock and Collin Newman (Janis) of Callao. Peggy is survived by her three precious great-grandchildren: Brantley, Sutherlynn and Knox. She is also survived by her siblings: Sandra Paxton Chaney (Norman), Frederick Daw Paxton (Deener), Karen Paxton Anderson (Tim), and David Stanton Paxton (Kathy); her brother-in-law Frank M. Newman, Jr. (Gerry); and her sister-in-law Joy Newman Self. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Albert Paxton, Jr., and Billy Paxton.

A funeral service for Peggy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Melrose United Methodist Church in Lottsburg. The Reverend Roy Foster will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Zachary Newman, Josh Fones, Noah Newman, Collin Newman, Bryce Newman and Zachary Newman. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, at the Welch Funeral Home Marks Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Peggy’s loving memory to The Haven, P.O. Box 1267, Warsaw, VA 22572.
