Obituary for William Ralph Gardiner Jr.
On Sunday, December 10, 2022 William Ralph Gardiner Jr. died suddenly at the age of 91 years old.
He is predeceased by his oldest child from his first marriage, Peggy Jean Gardiner Andicochea, and survived by grandchildren Dr. Chad Andicochea and Cori Andicochea Paltza and 4 great-grandchildren.
From his second marriage, he is survived by his son, Marc Vincent Gardiner, and predeceased by his daughter Marguerite Claire Gardiner, both from France. He has 3 grandchildren in France, Celine, Melanie and Mehdi, and 3 great-grandchildren.
From his third marriage, he is survived by his daughters Robin Gardiner Poncia, and Melissa Gardiner Ignacio. He has 4 grandchildren, Cameron Gardiner Poncia and Jamieson Campbell Poncia, Lauren Torres (nee Ignacio), and Haley Gardiner Ignacio.
He was predeceased by his wife Susan Dodson Gardiner, his 4th marriage. Susan’s children are Jane Kanowicz, Kathleen May, Robin Kanowicz and Teresa Mattingly.
Ralph Gardiner was from Waldorf, Maryland. He is predeceased by his parents, William Ralph Gardiner Sr. and Imogene Perrie Gardiner. He was the oldest of 12 children. He is predeceased by siblings Mary Imogene Gardiner, Dorothy Sullivan, Betty Ann Dateno, Harold Gardiner, Gerald Gardiner, and Wayne Gardiner. He is survived by siblings Mary Jean Williams, Linda Walter, Kay Simmons, Janice Gardiner, and Randy Gardiner.
He served in the military for most of his career in both the Air Force and the Navy and retired with the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting a donation to the Westmoreland County Animal Shelter.
