Obituary for David Frederick Johnston Sr.

David Frederick Johnston, Sr., 81, of Montross, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022. He was in the past a council member in Port Royal and a member of the vestry at St. James Episcopal Church in Montross. Later, he was a member of the SAR, NN Board of Realtors Rotary and Ruritan and the music club. After graduating from Randolph-Macon Military Academy, he attended South Eastern University, and he began his career as a Restauranter. After many years, he and his wife moved to Shepherdstown and owned a B&B known as Fuss and Feathers. His passion was history and old houses. He earned his degree, BA, from George Washington University. At this time the idea to open the real estate company, Antique Properties was born. In his spare time, he explored historical and military sites. He loved to travel to Williamsburg and Quebec especially. He enjoyed the symphony along with good food, wine and friends and the Redskins.

David is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Celeste W. Johnston; sons, David Johnston, Jr. (Jamie), Carter Johnston (Leah), Joseph Cockerman (Katherine) and John Wellington; daughter, Rebecca Williams (Chuck); sister Joan Gladstone-Shule; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four nieces; four nephews and four great nieces and great nephews. He enjoyed and dearly loved them all.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
