Obituary for Pauline Elizabeth "Betty" Jones (McAllister)

Pauline Elizabeth (Betty) Jones, age 84 of Farnham, Virginia passed away peacefully at her home on October 18, 2018 following a brief illness.

Betty was born on March 16, 1934 at Sampson’s Wharf, Northumberland County Virginia to Charles Preston McAllister and Pauline Thomas McAllister. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis Richard Jones, her parents, three infant brothers, two sisters Dorothy Dawson of White Hall, Maryland and Redia Kutzo of Orlando, Florida and a grandson Brian Andrew Brann of Village, Virginia.

Betty was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. She graduated from Wicomico High School in 1951 where she served as May Queen during her Senior Year and was Captain of both the Basketball and Softball Teams. After Graduation Betty married the love of her life, Louis Richard Jones. Into this union three girls were born: Bonnie, Betsy and Diane. Betty was a retired Supervisor for Tidewater Telephone Company; she was Co-Proprietor of Jones & Brann Building Contractors until 1993. After her retirement she worked as a Chef for Farnham Manor until 2004. Betty was a devoted wife, a loving mother & adored grandmother. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, sewing, gardening and baseball. She loved books and John Grisham was her favorite author. Betty was an avid Baltimore Orioles Baseball Fan.

She leaves behind her three daughters, Bonnie Vuxta and husband Paul of Yorktown, Betsy Brann and husband Bill of Village and Diane Jones of Farnham. Also surviving are five grandchildren Rich Tunstall, Kevin Tunstall, Lauran Vuxta, Billy Brann and Benjamin Brann. Betty has five great grandchildren: McKenzie Tunstall, Cody Tunstall, Jordyn Tunstall, Austin Tunstall and Raygan Tunstall. Betty also leaves behind her devoted sister Marilyn Brann of Coles Point and her best canine friend “Mack” and best feline friend “Stormy”.

Her remains rest at Welch Funeral Home, Warsaw Virginia. The family will receive visitors at 2:30 PM on Sunday October 21st with a 3PM Graveside service at Oakland Methodist Church with the Reverend Leslie Park officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to Hospice of Virginia, P.O. Box 2098, Tappahannock, Virginia. A special recognition to Lori Rice, RN and Aprile Watkins, RN for their gentle touch and loving care, many thanks to Julie Mills, RN for her care and much-needed assistance during Hurricane Michael and much love and gratitude to the entire Hospice of Virginia team.
