Florence Brown Coates, age 96, of Warsaw, went to be with her Lord on August 13, 2018.

Florence is survived by four children, Shirley Gordon (Jerry), Edward Coates (Sue), Jane Revere, all of Warsaw, and Roy Coates of Aylett.

She was also affectionately known as Grandma or Coatsey to 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nervy and Etta Brown and 13 siblings.

Florence was a retired cashier from Safeway, Hinson’s Market, Warsaw Supermarket, and Brown’s Market, and worked into her late seventies.

Florence was a longtime member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. She loved her church and when she was not able to attend, she enjoyed listening to televised services from First Baptist Church in Richmond.

Florence loved everyone, and everyone that knew her loved her as well. Her family was most important to her. She was the glue that held them together and all family functions centered around her.

Very special friends in her life were Barbara Price, Angela Maccubbin, Agnes Clarke, Evelyn Parker, and Faye Coates. There was a bond between these ladies that will never be broken.

The family would like to thank Riverside Hospital and Riverside Hospice for their care and attention and a special thank you to Florence’s loving caregiver, Christine Smith.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Jerusalem Baptist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Jerusalem Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Riverside Tappahannock Hospice, 289 Hospital Road, Tappahannock, VA 22560.
