Life Story for Florence Jenkins Muse

MUSE, Florence Jenkins, age 89, went to be with her Lord on August 5, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband, Goodwin Muse, her parents, Warren and Ada Jenkins, her sister, Nellie Allen, and her brothers Earl Jenkins, Irwin Jenkins, Luke Jenkins, Freddy Jenkins, Sidney Jenkins and Captain Billy Jenkins. She is survived by her brothers Doug Jenkins, Sr., and Warren Jenkins, Jr, and more than eighty nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

She was born on May 2, 1929 in Coles Point, Virginia. She accepted the Lord as her Savior at age 8 and was a lifelong member of Coles Point United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years.

She was a graduate of Cople High School and VCU, and taught in public and private schools for over fifty years. In 1993, she was recognized by Westmoreland County Public Schools for her dedicated service to education. She tutored many students in their homes, and was especially gifted at working with children with learning disabilities.

Florence loved flowers, was a member of the Westmoreland Garden Club and was honored with a Life Membership of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs. She also loved writing and was a correspondent of the Northern Neck news for fifty-seven years. She published several books, including “Memories”, “My Mother’s Hands”, “These Are My Children”, “Music in the Air” and “Travel With Me”.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Coles Point United Methodist Church, with interment to follow at Carmel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Coles Point United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, C/O Brenda Bevans, Treasurer, 528 Coles Point Rd., Hague, VA 22469.
